Today’s part we will be looking at is the Automatic Document Feeder or ADF. Some printers can do more than simply print and can have multiple functions and are “jack of all trades” machines, these are known as Multi-functional Printers or MFP for short. These printers can scan, fax and print using an ADF. Paper is fed into the ADF which then automatically scans the document to be printed or faxed. This part usually sits on top of the printer and is easily accessible. As in the your printer’s paper trays, ADF’s have internal to help guide the paper thru. Sometimes if the paper jams this might mean you need to replace these rollers also known as ADF kits.
There are two kinds of automatic document feeders capable of two-sided (duplex) scanning: a reversing automatic document feeder or RADF scans one side of a page, then flips it and scans the other side. A duplexing automatic document feeder or DADF scans both sides in one pass.
